Although already the veteran of seven WIP and blaxploitation films, it wasn’t until the release of Jack Hill’s Coffy that Pam Grier became a full-fledged star. Pam, in the title role, proved that a strong, black woman protagonist can not only carry a film, but be a box office smash as well. Perhaps no other film showcases her fierceness better than Coffy, which has Pam single-handedly trying to bring down a heroin/prostitution ring. Using whatever gifts God bestowed her with (beauty, brains, bullets, boobs), Coffy’s out to get revenge on those who made her little sister a junkie. No one sleeps when they mess with Coffy!
